Resources on Theological Aesthetics

Calvin College has a resource page devoted to theological aesthetics. This page includes a wonderful link to a bibliograpy compiled by Laura Smit.

That's a great resource, but I get overwhelmed by such a long list. Do you have two or three of that list that you'd recommend?

There are so many to choose from.

If you want to learn from the master then you have to study Balthasar. But he's a pretty tough read and at 7 volumes pretty massive.

Lewis's "The Weight of Glory" is a great, short read.

Seerveld's work is very useful and I recommend it highly.

You could pick a title from Begbie's works. He's a profound thinker.

Edward Farley's work is a good introduction and includes a summary of the field but it can get technical for the layperson.

Leland Ryken's work is written from an evangelical perspective and accessible too.
